The Straight Stair lift from Churchill's

Overview of features for the Straight Stairlift

The new stairlift from Churchill's is a winner with users and non-users alike:

  • No other stairlift in the world can beat it when it comes to comfort, style and sheer versatility.
  • Non-users will appreciate the generous amount of stair space it gives them.

Remote Control

  • The Churchill's Stair lift is operated by remote controls, at the top and bottom of your stairs, the on/off button at the end of the seat arm and the joystick control at the end of the other seat arm.
  • The remote controls are used to call the Churchill's Stair lift from the parked position at the opposite end of the staircase. To operate, you just point the remote control at the Stair lift seat backrest and press the up and down button continuously to allow the Stair lift to move.
  • The remote control is battery powered, and it is recommended that the remote battery is replaced annually.
  • If the Churchill's Stair lift is fitted with an optional Powered Hinge Track, Platform or Auto Park Feature, you will receive a remote control unit with a third button to operate these. Simply point the remote at the seat back and continuously press the button.

ON/OFF Switch

  • To operate the Churchill's Stair lift, check that the on/off switch is illuminated, meaning it is in standby mode ready for you to use.
  • It is recommended that the Stair lift is switched off using this on/off switch, when getting on and off the Stair lift and also when the lift is not in use

Joystick Control

  • The Churchill's Stair lift comes with a joystick control to operate the Stair lift when seated. You simply move the joystick in the direction of travel. There will be a safety delay of approximately 3 seconds before the Stair lift begins to move.
  • For safety, keep the joystick pressed throughout the journey. The Churchill's Straight Stair lift will automatically stop at the top or bottom.

Mains And Battery Operated Stair Lifts

  • The Churchill's Stair lift is powered by AC mains supply or optional DC battery. The batteries in the DC unit are continuously charged via the mains supply.
  • Battery operated Stair lifts will continue to operate in the event of a mains power cut for approximately 20 journeys (depending upon stair angle, speed and user weight).

Beware Obstructions

  • Before operating the Churchill's Stair lift, you need to ensure that there are no obstructions on your staircase. Equipped with sensitive edges around and under the footrest, as well as each side of the carriage, the Stair lift will stop immediately if it does meet an obstruction. Move the Stair lift in the opposite direction to remove the obstruction, at which point you may continue.

Swivel Seats

  • When your Churchill's Stair lift is at the top of the stairs, the seat will swivel to allow safe alighting from the Stair lift.
  • The Stair lift will not operate again until it is returned to the forward facing position.

Manual Swivel

  • There are swivel paddles located on both sides of the seat which, when depressed and held own, allow the seat to swivel.

Joystick Swivel Release (Optional)

  • At the top of the stairs, keep the joystick pressed in the upwards direction, which will release the swivel mechanism allowing the seat to swivel

Fully Powered Swivel (Optional)

  • By keeping the joystick pressed at the top of the stairs, the seat will automatically turn in the direction required.

Seat Belt

  • A seat belt is fitted for safety when using the Churchill's Stair lift. Ensure the belt is used at all times when travelling. When not in use, ensure the seat belt is kept clear of the rail.

Powered Footrest & Seat (Optional)

  • The Churchill's Stair lift will fold up when the Stair lift is not in use. The powered option automatically folds the footrest and seat for you by activating control switches on each side of the seat back.

Hinged Rail (Optional)

  • If there is a doorway or open corridor at the bottom of your stairs, the Churchill's Stairlift can be fitted with a powered or manual hinge that allows the bottom section of the rail to be moved when the Stair lift is not in use. Powered hinges are operated with the remote control unit and automatically fold the hinged section back through 180 degrees, so it sits on top of the rail. When operating the Churchill's Stairlift, any hinged track must be down fully before the Stair lift will work.

Platform (Optional)

  • Powered bridging platforms are operated by continuously depressing the button on the remote control unit. The Platform will automatically fold through 90 degrees, creating a level-bridging platform between the staircases. When operating the Churchill's Stair lift, any platform must be fully down before the Stair lift will operate. The platform movement must be in full view for safety. If the Churchill's chair lift has a powered hinge and platform fitted together, they will operate simultaneously via the remote control unit.

Auto Parking (Optional)

  • Auto Parking is operated via the remote control and automatically folds the seat, footrest and hinge (if powered options are fitted), then park the Churchill's Stair lift in a position on the rail above the folded hinge.

Safety

  • For safety, children should not be allowed to play with the Stair lift. The Churchill's Stair lift has a label on the carriage showing the safe weight limit the Stair lift can carry. The limit should not be exceeded.

Cleaning

  • Manual cleaning of the Churchill's Stair lift is required. The seat and carriage can be wiped down with a cloth and the rail can be polished with normal furniture polish or a cloth.

Maintenance & Fault Finding

  • The Churchill's straight Stair lift incorporates an inbuilt Self Diagnostics system located on the carriage, giving information on the status of the Stairlift. If the Stair lift will not work, this diagnostic system will display one of a number of symbols. You simply check this with the list in your User Manual supplied with the Stair lift to determine the cause and how to rectify the fault.
  • A hand winder is provided which will wind the chair lift in an emergency.
